ALL ABOUT DONATING EGGS 🥚

EGG DONATION

Our Egg donors undergo psychological and medical screening, which includes a thorough medical history, physical exam, and ovarian reserve assessment to determine if she is likely to be a good donor candidate.

Egg donation can be used when other reproductive options have either been exhausted or are not available. We provide the needed support to patients during the process of selecting an egg donor.

There is now a great deal of logistical potential and versatility in resources when planning your family.  Eggs can be donated anonymously or non-anonymously (directed).  Resultant embryos can be used as fresh embryos (just fertilized and cultured) or thawed after being frozen.  Embryos themselves can be derived from eggs just harvested (fresh eggs) or from frozen eggs in an egg bank (similar to a sperm bank).  All options work equally well, and Chelsea Fertility NYC has success with all these options.

Why Choose Egg Donation?

Oocytes (eggs) from young, healthy women possess greater fertility potential and this potential is utilized in donor oocyte treatment. In this process, oocytes from another woman (the donor) are fertilized with sperm and the resultant embryos are placed in the recipient’s uterus. The oocytes are stimulated and retrieved from the donor using routine IVF-ET techniques. The donor may be “known” and recruited by the recipient or may be unknown to the recipient, having been recruited by BLESSED WORLD SURROGACY ENTERPRISE  or a PARTNER Outside donor egg agency.

We understand that choosing egg donation may carry with it a simultaneous sacrifice of hope for pregnancy with one’s own eggs or oocytes, and this can be a feeling of great loss. There are likely many characteristics you hope your oocyte donor will possess, and you probably desire that your egg donor will possess many of your own characteristics.

Our IVF team will help in any way we can to assist you in selecting a donor who meets your most important expectations.

When Is an Egg Donor Recommended?

• Women who experience premature ovarian failure or diseases associated with premature ovarian failure (POF).

• Women who have undergone radiation and/or chemotherapy treatment or surgical removal of the ovaries.

• Women who carry a serious genetic disease who wish to diminish the chance that the disease will be passed on to their offspring and choose not to have PGD/PGS .Women whose age is sufficiently advanced so that their fertility potential is impaired significantly.

• Women who have had repeatedly poor quality embryos during previous IVF cycles.

DONORS EGG RISK & COMPLICATION

Prior to beginning a donor egg cycle, it is highly recommended that egg donors thoroughly discuss all potential risks and side effects of egg donation with their fertility physician.

There are several risks and side effects that may be associated with providing donor eggs:

• Blood drawing: – Mild discomfort and some risk of developing a bruise at the needle site.

• Fertility Drugs: – Moderate weight gain, mood changes, stomach pressure, headaches, allergic reaction, Ovarian Hyper-Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS) of the ovaries ( 5% chance in any cycle). In very rare cases, hyperstimulation could lead to enlarged ovaries and an increased susceptibility to develop blood clots necessitating hospitalization. In very rare cases it may also lead to the development of fluid in the abdomen or lungs, kidney failure, or stroke. In extremely rare cases, an enlarged hyperstimulated ovary will rupture. This may necessitate general anesthesia and major surgery, with all the inherited risks. Loss of one or both ovaries is possible.

The risk of hyperstimulation is minimized if the follicles are aspirated as is planned to occur at the donor egg retrieval. The risk increases if, after taking the fertility medications to stimulate the ovaries, you choose not to undergo the egg retrieval. There also exists an unlikely possibility of a lasting effect on your pelvic organs, including pain, irregular menstrual function, or impairment of future fertility. Finally, an association between fertility drugs and ovarian cancer has been suggested but not proven.

• Antibiotics: – Possible allergic reaction which, in rare cases, may be severe.

• Ultrasound guided egg retrieval: – Mild to moderate discomfort after the procedure. Potentially serious complications include bleeding, infection, and injury to the bowel or blood vessels. In extremely rare circumstances, surgery may be necessary to repair damage to internal organs or to control significant internal bleeding (i.e., hemorrhage). Anesthesia will be necessary for the egg retrieval. ( The risks associated with anesthesia will be explained during a consultation with an anesthesiologist ) There may be additional risks of , which at the present time have not yet been identified. Since it is theoretically possible that not all of the developed eggs will be recovered at the time of retrieval, there is a risk that you may become pregnant if you engage in unprotected intercourse during the egg donation cycle(s).

• Ultrasound examinations: – no known risks, minimal discomfort.

• Torsion: – Twisting of an enlarged ovary resulting in sudden onset of severe abdominal pain. Onset during exercise or other agitating movement is common.

• Psychological Distress: – Sometimes associated with assisted reproductive technology procedures.

• Inconvenience: – Monitoring procedures during the period of stimulation, and the time needed to perform the egg retrieval itself will result in a certain amount of inconvenience and lost time.

• Potential Long Term Risks: – No definitive studies have demonstrated any link between egg donation and infertility, cancer, or any other significant long-term health problems. Since egg donation is a relatively new procedure, we hope to learn more about the long-term effects of donor eggs in the future when additional research becomes available.

UNDERSTANDING THE PROCESS OF SPERM DONATION

SPERM DONATION

Sperm donation is a procedure in which a man donates semen — the fluid containing sperm that is released during ejaculation — to help an individual or a couple conceives a baby.

Donated sperm can be injected into a woman’s reproductive organs (intrauterine insemination) or used to fertilize mature eggs in a lab (in vitro fertilization). The use of donated sperm is known as third-party reproduction.

A man who makes a sperm donation can be known or anonymous to the recipient. Sperm donations made to a known recipient are called directed donations.

Before you can donate sperm, you must be screened for medical conditions and other risk factors. It’s also important to understand the possible emotional, psychological and legal issues of sperm donation.

Sperm donation is done to help an individual or a couple conceives a baby. You might choose to make a sperm donation to help those who are unable to conceive — such as a woman who doesn’t have a male partner or a couple experiencing male infertility.

If you donate semen to a sperm bank, you’ll likely be paid for each donation that passes the sperm bank’s screening process. Payment is intended to compensate you for your time and any related expenses. The amount is typically low enough that money isn’t the main incentive for donation.
Before sperm donation, you’ll likely be asked again to abstain from ejaculation — either through sex or masturbation — for at least 2-3 days.

FREEZING SPERM FOR FUTURE PARENTHOOD 🥶

The process of freezing sperm and storing it for future use. Samples of semen are collected and checked under a microscope in the laboratory to count sperm cells and find out how healthy they are. The sperm cells are then frozen and stored. Sperm cryopreservation is often used for men who want to have children after having treatment that may cause infertility, such as certain cancer treatments. Sperm cryopreservation is a type of fertility preservation. Also called sperm banking.

SURROGACY

Surrogacy is an arrangement, often supported by a legal agreement, whereby a woman agrees to deliver/labour for another person or people, who will become the child's parent(s) after birth.

SURROGATE COMPENSATION

First of all, Surrogacy should not be seen as an easy path to riches. Typically the compensation paid to a surrogate is about what someone would be paid to work a part-time job. Surrogacy compensation should not be considered as a sole source of income; if that is the case, surrogacy is not the “job” for you.

Having said that, the compensation paid to a surrogate may allow her to improve her or her family’s financial position, perhaps go back to school, put a down payment down on a house, or be a stay-at-home mom to her own young children.

A detailed breakdown of our surrogate compensation package will be provided by your Surrogate Coordinator

Expenses typically reimbursed under a surrogacy agreement include:

  1. Local travel to medical appointments, screenings, or fertility procedures
  2. Maternity clothing
  3. Feeding allowances
  4. Psychological support
  5. Pumping breast milk if required
  6. Required bed rest
  7. Required time off from work
  8. Legal fees related to surrogacy

Surrogacy should never be viewed simply as having a baby for money. A surrogate helps another to achieve something he or she has been yearning for:

The joy of having a child. It might even change your life! You could help build a family from the ground up and be emotionally and financially rewarded in the process..
